niwp logo3-new 2007.jpgAre you looking for a challenge?

Do you want to share your expertise with others?

Then the 2009 NIWP Advanced Institute is for you!

When:           Tuesday July 7th and Wednesday July 8th, 2009

Where:          UI campus in Moscow

Why:              To join our cadre of traveling in-service facilitators

NIWP is looking for 12 teacher consultants who are willing and able to get professional leave during the school year in order to facilitate in-service programs in various school districts in our region.  Participants will be chosen based on interests, expertise, and, to some extent, geographic location. This is your chance to become an in-service provider for NIWP!

The two-day Advanced Institute will be held on Tuesday, July 7 & Wednesday July 8 on the UI campus in Moscow and is open to teachers who have completed the regular NIWP Summer Institute. The Advanced Institute is designed to help TCs hone their facilitation skills and develop workshop material. We will be discussing the types of in-service that are being requested by districts and how to develop effective, energetic workshops that leave the participants excited about literacy and wanting to learn more.  Like the Summer Institute, you will be exposed to ideas to take back to your classroom in the fall while researching and developing materials for a variety of workshops. You will discover that preparing for and facilitating in-service also impacts your classroom teaching. I always learn more about teaching each time I do an in-service presentation.

TCs who complete the advanced institute and are sent out for in-service programs during the school year will be paid a stipend that covers preparation time, round-trip mileage from home to the participating district, and their district will receive reimbursement for a substitute.  As the in-service coordinator, I advertise and sell our programs to districts in the region and then match TCs to districts based on the district needs (& location) and the TC’s specific skills and expertise. As we begin to generate more interest in our programs, we need to have a cadre of TCs who are able to facilitate in a variety of settings throughout our region.

Cost:  $140 workshop fee; one UI credit will also be available (requires a follow-up assignment).
